Trying to set up an NCFTP server, NAT problems.
A friend of mine was having trouble with an old computer of his, and his family quickly declared it dead when they couldn't re-install Windows. He got a new one, and knowing my affinity to hardware, asked if I wanted it. I gladly accepted, and promptly installed Slackware on it (w00t) and it's been running find ever since. It's an older machine, and I don't have a monitor/keyboard/mouse to go with it, so it basically just runs headless in my younger brothers bedroom. Only recently have I been tinkering around with it, and I'm trying to get an FTP server running. I've already got a Ventrilo and a Shoutcast server running off of it, and I thought having an FTP would be nifty.
I didn't have any problem installing the server (I'm using NCFTP, it's what I use for client-side stuff, so I thought I'd use the server too) but having users access it, is a whole different ballgame. So here's the deal, I can connect to the server from within my home network (either using the local ip or the external ip) and it connects without a hitch, when people outside try to connect, problems arise. When an outside user tries to connect their connection Times Out from IE and does the same on the commandline FTP client for Windows (just ftp) and gives the error message "Unknown error number". Unfortunately, none of my more tech savvy friends were on, so I had to work with what everyone else had.
I figured it ought to be working, as I have that particular machine DMZ'd, plus outside users can SSH into it no problem, and can access the Ventrilo/Shoutcast servers as well without a problem. I started reading the documentation from NCFTP's site, but I was unable to figure anything out from there.
So, any ideas?
