trying to log into samba file server

Hi,

Sorry for asking this again but I am hoping someone else will see this question after I update it, since it has been a few days.

I am trying to access my file server from my XP machine but with a different username. I am trying to figure out how to hard code a username and password with my login attempt, since my machine has the proper username/password cached somewhere, and won't release it. I need to login with this new username for testing purposes, and I don't won't to make the new user on my machine.

Anyone have an idea?

Thanx a lot in advance,
Adamantium

well... i dont know how to test the username from the windows box without setting up a new user but you could just test the username from the linux box by opening konquerer, etc. and typing smb://localhost/ selecting a share if necessary and then test the username and pass. Thats what i do to test each account before i go fuddle my winboxes up.

Hey i just ran into this today, don't know if it will help you but in the samba directory there is a smbusers

It looks like you can alias unix names to smb names in here so im guessing, this is just guessing, that you could alias a unix username such as daniel to equal a samba name of bill. daniel being the name of the account you already have setup on your linux box but did not want to create on the winbox that is logged in as bill. Just thought id throw that out there for you to play with
