Troubles with MDK 9.1 and Sympatico DSL HSE

I'm having a very strange problem trying to get my Sympatico HSE DSl internet to work in MDK 9.1. I've read a few posts about this in this forum and tried a few solutions but I still don't get any where. The best success I've had was using the rp-pppoe which configures things and lets me get an ip from sympatico but I can't access anthting on the net or even ping the sympatico server! I checked ifconfig to see whats wrong and found that along with my DLink DFE 530 NIC at eth0 and the PPP created by rp-pppoe I have this local loopback. Does anyone have any ideas?

To clarify the arrangement of my hardware I'm just running the NIC direct to the DSL modem a speedstream 5200. I have no troubled running my internet through Win XP and am not sure what's going wrong with my linux partition.

Thanks in Advance!
Vartal
