trouble with browsers

I need to program routers of same brand and am having trouble with logging into them after I've been to them before and have changed the IP address. The Browsers insist the address is the old address and refuse to connect.

Is there a browser that doesn't do this? Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, Konqueror, and Epiphany, I've tried and they all make life a PITA!

Try clearing your browser cache. Especially the history.
Although, if you enter the full URL in the address bar, the browser shouldn't change it.
By full URL I mean
Code:
http://192.168.0.1
Don't let the browser supply the http(s)...

But clearing the history and/or cache should fix it.

Are you using the router's IP address or some other URL? As posted browsers will "suggest" the URL based on history. While it might display the old IP address you can always manually change it and you should be able to turn off the "feature" in the browsers settings.

You do not specifically post by what method you are using to setup the routers but if you are using some other URL other than its IP address then the old address may still exist in your DNS cache. The old IP in the DNS cache should exist for a short time but use the new IP address.

For example: I type into the browser 192.168.1.1 to get to the admin page for brand x router, the browser will insist I'm wanting to go to brand ASUS I haven't logged into in over a year and it won't go to the page. It pretends the device isn't there and presents an error message. And yes, the browser will add stuff other than what was typed such as the full location of the html page of the ASUS I was last on a year previously.

So where do I go to clear the cache?

In the file browsers settings usually under "Privacy and Security" select clear browsing history.

sorry, been out for awhile on a job that required me to use the ability to log into devices and configure them. Unfortunately, I couldn't log in, so i had to borrow a windows laptop. I don't know how to use windows since w95 and 3.11.

I cannot get into browser settings and clear the history. Since this seems to be effecting all the browers, I'm wondering if there is a universal setting somewhere that prevents me from entering browser settings? Clicking on the 3 horizontal bars in upper right corner does not give me access to anything on my laptop. On this machine I get a drop menu, on my laptop I get a nothing. Ditto for Konquoror and Chrome. OS is ubuntu 1604.

Regardless of what the browser automatically puts in the URL bar you should be able to manually delete or type over it.

With Firefox clicking on the 3 bars should display a drop down menu. Depending on version you should be able to select preferences or options which will display the browsers settings in a new tabbed window. Click privacy in the left frame and the settings will appear in the right. You can then clear the history as well configure its settings and deselect the location bar history suggestion.

I take a lan cable and connect the laptop directly to the router, set the port to the correct IP range and enter the correct IP address in the browser search bar. This method has been used for years, lately it has become problematic. Recently, it has become useless.

As has been stated, you can configure Firefox to clear the history and the cache on shutdown. You should probably do that to prevent further problems.
