trouble mounting linux shared folder

I have a suse 9.1 box running as a server which serves shared folders and printer to windows machines via samba.

using a linux client laptop, I can ftp to it and print to it via cups, bu cant get to the shared folders. I tried linneighborhood to mount it and got the following error:

smbmount: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/samba/charset/ undefined symbol: smb_register_charset

would like to get it on the samba network to share permissions and all, but would be happy just to login to the machine without using samba. I'm kinda a newbie, I'm sure mounting network shares is easier than I think!

thanks in advance...
