triple-homed ubuntu server proxy/router acting as a fallback gateway
 

Hi All,

It's been quite some time since I posted something and now I do need to ask something from everyone or anyone who knows about what I'm planning...If you've heard of fatpipe from fatpipe.com, it's a pretty incredible hardware, wherein you could get 2 or more internet connection then it tries to merge 'em all into one connection and if one line fails, the other lines take over...it's more like network balancing of a sort in a sense that it balances the connections, utilizing each one to it's max increasing connection speed...now, the reason why I mentioned the said hardware was because I wanted to emulate it using a triple-homed ubuntu server wherein a DSL and a T1 line are plugged in to the server serving an internal network...I want to make the server utilize the lines at their optimum wherein if one line's a li'l bit clogged up with requests the server automatically passes all request to the other line and if one line fails the connection will still be available until the other line's ok...btw, I forgot to mention, this would become a production server and as of now I've installed ubuntu server into it running as a proxy/router, currently my company has a hundred or so ubuntu linux boxes and 5 or so servers doing asterisk as we're into customer support and I'm just newly hired and my manager gave me the go signal to streamline the network, if it needs be to restructure it...any help is greatly appreciated...

I think it all starts with the LARTC, maybe this is a start: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html. If you're going to use Julian Anastasov's patches (bottom of page) better check the LARTC mailing list first as it seemed to work with 2.4 but not with 2.6 kernels.
