transfer between laptop and desktop

What's a good tool to transfer Windows and BSD 4.3 partitions over to a desktop from a laptop? I would use a serial or parallel connection. Would kermit work? Can it be automated? I can boot finnix or bsd or windows.

And what's tct good for? Can it work with BSD4.3 filesystem?

What is a good method to cable to computers together for communications? I know a bidirectional parallel port can be used. Does Kermit or any other tool support transfer over parallel port? Can one hook up two computers directly via serial port or do you have to use a null modem cable?
