Tracking users in ProFtpd

Hello all!

As the title states, I would like to be able to view who is connected to my ProFtpd server at any given time as well as monitor the bandwidth used at any given time. Is this possible and if so, how do I set it up?

Thank you very much in advance!

Ooo! I got another one! Can I use ProFtpd to host images on...say... a forum like this one?

You can use "netstat -nap | grep EST" and it should show you who is connected at the moment. If you want more ongoing view, just combine it with the "watch" command. So you can do...

watch 'netstat -nap | grep EST'

and that will show a continuous refresh of that command which will show all your connected traffic including your proftpd people. Mine shows the connected username also.

Bandwidth? I don't know of a way to view it in realtime, but you could setup MRTG to watch your eth0 performace. You could also tail the log files which should show you the bytes transferred. But this isn't exactly what you wanted.

To host images, you can upload them using proftpd, but you'll probably need to have a web server running also to serve these images when requested. That way, you reference your images using http URLs. I don't think ftp URLs will work for what you're wanting to do.

Thanks for the info! I'll try that command when I get home.

I have httpd installed but not activated. Just another thing I gotta figure out.

Oh well. That's half the fun right?
