traceroute for directly connected node (next hop itself is destination)

I can do traceroute to all nodes which are NOT directly connected. But showing me stars for nodes within LAN or directly connected. Is it the correct behavior?

You should get a response.
But remember, traceroute sends UDP packets and receives ICMP responses. Try a pcap and see if the target is responding.
