Toshiba PCX1100U USB Cable Modem + Redhat 9

Alright, here's the problem.

First off, I'm a so go easy.

I've been useing Mandrake 8.2, which detected the Cable Modem as a network card and set itself up flawlessly.
I then recently decided to upgrade to Mandrake 9.1, it detected my USB Modem, but it was under Other/Unknown Devices.
Being fed up with trying to get it to work under Mandrake 9.1, I reformated the partition and installed Red Hat 9.

Redhat 9 autodetected the modem and automaticaly set up CDCEther as the module it uses. I then set up an ethernet connection useing that device and set it to automatically obtain IP info.

After doing this I tried to activate the connection. The light on the modem blinks (meaning its sending data), but shortly after it times out and says could not obtain IP address.

I also have WinXP loaded on this machine and the modem works fine.

I know a little about this modem since I used to do techsupport for them(plus i have one in front of me).

As I understand it you are trying to use the USB connection to the modem. This isnt going to work unless toshiba decided to release the code for the driver or write it themselves.

You need a NIC not a USB NIC. the USB NIC is similar to the winmodem so not going to be much support in linux.

And one thing that kind of sucks about the toshiba modems is that none of the models have seperate send/recieve lights. So when the data light blinks you cant really tell if you are sending or receiving data. And most of the time if you have a cable light then the data light will be blinking because of the equiptment at the other end polling your modem.

So in short.... buy a nic and it will work.
