TL-PS310U and Slackware64 14
Hi everybody. I wanted to share an HP P1005 printer over a lan composed of 7 (Slackware) pcs connected via 2 netgear routers.
A friend of mine gave me this small box (TP LINK TL-PS310U) which claims to be a print server, but so far I haven't been able to make it work. The software specification on the official site of TP LINK says it can use the protocol LPR/LPD. I can see the printer on 192.168.1.10, but it doesn't print. I configured CUPS (localost:631) to use LPR/LPD protocol (lpd://192.168.1.10/) but it doesn't work. What do I miss? Something about CUPS? AFAIK the LPD protocol is universal, so it should work even if the printer server is an only Win box.

What do you mean by see the printer?
According to the manual the printer should be lpd://192.168.1.10/lp1

the print server has a default ip address (192.168.0.10), I connected the print server to the netgear router and changed the ip address (192.168.1.10) then I connected to the print server (through firefox port 80) and saw that the print server reported an hp printer connected.
I've also tried lpd://192.168.1.10/lp1 but the only effect is that the leds on the router and on the print server start blinking and .... after fifteen minutes nothing happens.
I begin to think that the print server only works using the software specifically written for Winxp! It seems that the device is somewhat blocked.
Thank anyway
Luigi

The only software I found on the print server disk is for winxp so I can't use it for Slackware64, it doesn't even work via wine (slackware64 multilib)
thanks anyway

You can try Brother driver. Some Brother is compatible with TL-PS310U and it support Linux, maybe not Slackware.
