Question tips on setting up DSL over PPoE

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to hook up my redhat 7.1 linux box to my DSL modem. My DSL provider is Verizon and they use PPPoE. I installed a 10mbps 3com NIC, and it was detected. I have questions on how I authenticate and receive an IP though?

Do I set up my system as a DHCP client?
How will I be authenticated by my DSL provider? That is in windoze, it's necessary to login w/ a username and passwd with the verizon dial up app.

Any tips, suggestions, or links to help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

AngrySun4u

A good place to start is with Roaring Penguin. It has a Linux PPPoE client, with an easy setup utility.

You can download the PPPoE client from www.roaringpenguin.com

Got it working last night w/ the PPPoE package that Red Hat has on 7.1 (which from roaringpenguin.com i believe). Though I think I've got to update my resolv.conf because I wasn't able to use netscape or ping anything by name.
