The semaphore timeout period has expired when joining a domain

After changing the ldap admin password on our pdc server, I got this message on a windows 2000 client when I am joining it to the domain...

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "secret":

The semaphore timeout period has expired.

What does this mean? I change our password because I can not connect this win2000 client to our domain. So I needed to change the password. Is the command smbpasswd -w <secret password> correct? Because bad password and bad username appears that's why I changed the password.

???
