testparm error....what does this mean?

all I have in my smb.config file is this:
[global]
workgroup= workgroup1

[homes]
guest ok = no
read only =no

testparm gives out this error: lock directory / usr/local/samba/var/locks does not exist

what does this mean?

lock directory / usr/local/samba/var/locks does not exist

assuming you typed this correctly you do not have a directory named / usr ..... change it to /usr/local/samba/var/locks

Let me decipher the error first: It complains that the default directory for the lock file does not exist:

either you create the directory it expects or you set a different one using the tag

lock dir =

in your smb.conf.
