test network scenario... feasible or wtf? ;)

*** Warning - involves windows ***

Ok, what are the details I'm not thinking about :

I have DSL -> DSL Modem -> Linksys Router/Switch... and my wap and my ununtu machine and my 'folding' computers are connected to that in 192.168.1.0. A very normal setup. No domain controller or file server or any 'real' networking going on there.

Now I want to connect a windows 2003 server computer to that router and have the W2K3 machine be the domain controller for a 10.0.0.0 'sub-network' with only one or two computers connected to it. This is only for playing around with W2K3 as a domain controller, active directory server, dhcp server, etc., and for testing some SQL 2000 stuff for a potential jop opportunity.

The W2K3 machine will have 2 NICS, one (eth0) in from the existing 192.168.1.1 router and one (eth1) out to another new 5 port switch that the 2 computers in that 10.0.0.0 'sub-network' will connect to. I have no plans to connect back into the W2K3 machine from the internet (like, no apache or ftp or anything like that at this time). I just wanted the connection for windows updates, etc., and for the 'exercise'.
Code:
so, DSL -> DSL Modem -> Linksys Router/Switch -> W2K3 -> Linksys 5 port switch -> a laptop and maybe another computer.
.   (ISP assigned IP)    (192.168.1.1)           (10.0.0.0, .1)                          (10.0.0.n)
. (-www.bstexas.net - just so I'll have something to call the domain.)
Does the W2K3 machine care where it gets its feed from the internet? It's just a signal into eth0 from a cloud as far as it's concerned, right? (hehe.. I'm such a simpleton, eh? )

(This is the place where I am detail challenged. I registered -www.bstexas.net with dyndns.org and they tell me that it is associated with a particular 68.88.n.n IP and the ns[12345].mydyndns.org nameservers are available, etc., but I'm not sure that that will come into play here, unless I have to use all of that to get the W2K3 machine to see the internet.)

I guess actually, the w2k3 machine doesn't even need to be connected to the internet, but I was just trying to mirror what a real setup might look like, sorta...

Any comments? I know I have a very simple, somehwat scattered view of what I want to do here, but I'm not looking to setup a 'production' network. Does this look like something that I can play around with, or should I just setup the w2k3 network separately, not connected to the internet, connect a laptop to it and do the SQL stuff, which is really one of the things I need to concentrate on for this potential job. But, actually setting up the W2K3 machine would be a plus.

Incidentally, I just installed legal copies of w2k3 and SQL 2000 server on one of my computers for this. (Don't worry, when I finish with this testing thing, I'll pop that new harddrive out and reconnect my slackware harddrive. )

Hi,

just a remark: on a corporate network, the AD wouldn't act as a router or a bridge Is there a special reason why you do this?

Well, in my little test network I'll have one computer to serve those roles and another computer, maybe 2, that will be clients. I hope to actually start messing around with that today.

And I'm not sure what you mean. The main server at a small company I recently worked for did the Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, etc.
