terminal program

I use win2k hypter terminal to connect to my cisco router. I have the abilty to be able to adjust my serial connection speed and etc under the hyper terminal program. I am new to Linux. What program in linux in similiar to windows hyper terminal and if there is no program under the GUI then how do I connect serially to my router? Please help!
