telnet Win to Linux: no redirection in shell

Hi.

This is surely a silly problem.

I'm using a windows box to telnet to a Linux (Fedora Core 4). I login to a bash session.

The command I use is
Code:
telnet -l user
The problem is that I cannot use redirect operators (no pipe, no > or whatever) and I get a "command not found" error.

From env I get that the terminal type is set to ansi and LC_LANG=en_GB...

This is quite annoying, as it renders me unable to pipe stuff through grep...

Any ideas?

bash: |grep: unknown option

It just don't understand that what's after the list of flags are redirection operators. It things the pipe or any other redirector are arguments to the first command.

Strange, because what I indeed do is logging in via telnet to a normal bash shell on a Fedora Core 5 box
