telnet /ssh traffic

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question - feel free to move it.

Basically I want to use my mobile phone as a data modem and log into a server via telnet/ssh to run some jobs and do some online editing of files. This I'm hoping should be relatively straight forward, but because I only have a small data package with my mobile phone contract (25 megabytes per month) I wonder is this feasible on something approaching a daily level. I suppose the question I'm asking is anyone got an idea of how much traffic telnet or ssh generates approximately?

Any assitance or comments would be most appreciated!

all the best

well telnet is just one byte per character at application level... ssh just adds encryption around the same initial volume of data.

ok, thanks for the reply, thats some what reassuring. Is there any Linux program anyone could recommend that allows you to monitor the amount of the traffic thats popping out the pipe?
