yea, i still didn't figure it out completely... edited the file manually. couldn't really find any normal manuals on ipchains. maybe someone can point me to them? =)

I had this problem jsut the other day, I found out that my networking was not enabling properly. If you are using redhat then go to your network configuration in gnome or somewhere and make sure that under network devices you do not have your modem in that list. This caused my comp to try and use ppp0 for networking directly and it failed to load causing the networking to fail. remove your modem from list of networking devices and try it. If that does not work, check your firewall settings and make sure that you dont have telnet disabled.
