telnet not working

Ok. I want to telnet from a windows box to my Mandrake 7.1 box. I'm not worried about security. I can ping the 7.1 box. When I try to telnet, I get a message that 'connection to host is lost'. I am pretty sure that I did not install a firewall.

After reviewing some of the postings elsewhere, I look for a file or directory called /etc/xinitd.d, but find nothing like it. I search in /etc for telnet*, but only find some config file called /etc/X11/wmconfig/telnet that looks unrelated.

How do I telnet to this box?

please search the forums in future, this question gets asked FAR too many times.

1) make sure telnet IS installed:
rpm -qa | grep telnet

2) make sure it's enabled in /etc/xinetd.d/telnet

Did you install the telnet server when you did the install?
