hello.
i tried to connect to a computer throw telnet but it didn't work since i am using a lan (at home). when i try to connect though the host the telnet works. can anyone tell me how to use telnet if i am using a lan???

i am using a lan and i want to connect to a computer in a lan.
i lnow how to do it from a computer that is not in a lan.
when i write telnet [the address] i get "Connecting to gw.cs...... could not open connection to the host, on port 23: connect faild"
when i try to do this on the lan's server it works.
how do i make it work here???

my computer is P-3 using win xp. i have a small local area connection (only 2 computers). my computer is not the server.
i want to connect to a computer in my university, which is using linux.
i tried to connect to the university computer though my computer, i used telnet. i wrote 'telnet gw.cs.huji.......' but this didn't work it gave me the message: "Connecting to gw.cs...... could not open connection to the host, on port 23: connect faild".
when i tried to connect to the university computer through the server of my local area connection it worked.
so there must be a problem with using telnet through a lan.
there must be a way to fix this problem. if anyone knows please let me know.
if this isn't enough information tell me what else do i need to tell you.
by the way when i use a the internet on my computer i need to specify my proxy settings, the address of the proxy. do i need to do the same for telnet. if so how?
