telnet

I'm trying to set my linux computer so that I can telnet into it from my other computer. The problem is that I don't know where to start. The network information in the linux computer is all accurate but when i use telnet on my windows computer it says that it could not open a connection. Can someone tell me what settings I need to change to allow telnet access from remote computers?

Hi
Have you got the telnet daemon installed and running? As you can't telnet, I assume not.

Somewhat the same question

I have the telnetd installed, but if I try to start it with

in.telnetd

It gives an error saying something about Socket-operations on non-socket device or the other way around. Whats my mistake??

You should not use telnet anyway. Use ssh instead, it is the secure way to login to a remote computer. You can get free ssh for windows if you need to log in from a windows box.

Really, telnet is very unsecure. Unless you are not connected to a public network. Anyone watching traffic can see everthing you do on it.
