oops!

I.P: 192.168.10.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.10.1

Think about this. You have now told your box that if it has a packet destined for another network the gateway it needs to send it to is itself! You also have a default gateway supplied by your ISP. This is the correct default gateway, i.e anything that is not a local nework is obviously via the internet. While you can set a default gateway on both interfaces these DG's are really only translated to a 0.0.0.0 route in the route table. Your box only has one routing table therefore these DG's will now conflict. Chances are the box has picked the default route on the interface with the highest ip address again.

Your box gets a DG from the ISP. This is used as a default route. There should be no DG configured on eth1. Any hosts that sit on your internal network 192.168.10.x that want to use eth1 as a path to the internet need 192.168.10.1
configured as their default gateway.

OK, I got a machine now (a P4) which is lacking an HD, I'll get a 20 GB used one I have, and keep on triying.

So far the windows connection works great, took seconds to configure, and no speed decrease on the connection. Ammenities are spybot blocker, avg anti virus, and no proxy.

Tomorrow I'll install Linux on the other HDD, and start all over again.

PS I installed formatted the other HDD to install windows.

hahahahah I'm stubborn.

I'm glad you are still going to try it.

To view a ethernet configuration type this at the command line (this will not over write anything)

ifconfig eth0
and
ifconfig eth1

I have not set any gateway on mine. Try leaving it blank.
