TC with vonage?

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a traffic shaper on my linux box to give the Vonage device priority over other traffic so that calls are not choppy. The problem with a lot of the scripts that are out there for this, is that they are programmed for connections that have as set amount of bandwidth such as the dsl 1.5mb/128kbs. The connection I am using belongs to the university, they have a ds3 and this always has plenty of bandwidth so this connection is not the problem. I am connected to a vpn server using openvpn. I have all my traffic routed to this vpn gateway. Usually I get about 3 mb/s off this server, but that depends if it is being used by other people, so my bandwidth on it shifts thoughout the day. The only time the calls are choppy is when I download something. I'm looking for a way to set tc or anything on my linux box to give my Vonage device priority. If you guys have any ideas please let me know.

Thanks,
MalreyX

You could write a shaping script yourself which would suit your exact purposes. However if you want you shaping to also be effective on the downlink without using a seperate box that doesn't generate local traffic, then you might need to consider using the IMQ device for shaping.

Let me know if you need any further help, as I have already implemented several similar setups which work pefectly on much smaller bandwidth.
