Lightbulb ? Systems Communicating using ADSL or Modems using phone lines


Friends

I have two systems located far from each other approximately 15 kilometers. They dont have communication between them only thing is phone.

The one system want to connect other using the telephone line using ADSL or simple modems. To transfer the files or to use VNC, RDP.

What linux, windows softwares presently supporting this feature. I Want to communicate between two systems without Internet but only with the phone lines.

any one please guide me to establish the connection between two using phone line (without internet).


Please help

You can do it using PPP (Point to Point Protocol).

Haven't done it myself so can't offer a lot of guidance.

Doing a Google search for "PPP Server" will give you a lot of hits for this.

In Windows there is two options like accept the incoming connection and the create a vpn connection to connect the same,


by the same can i use this feature in Linux, how the business people located at different places(i.e branches at different locations) are connecting using modem what they are using to establish the phone line connection between the computers and etc.,


some more guidelines and steps towards this is needed specially in Linux

Did you research PPP as I suggested?

Is there any particular reason not to use the Internet? Direct dial or leased line over POTS (plain old telephone system) was the standard way of connecting remote computers but it was expensive and/or slow and high maintenance which is why VPN was so welcome and pretty much everyone changed over.
