Syslog level information

Hi

I need some information about levels in syslog configuration. Can anyone please help me.

If I set mail.debug in the syslog configuration will the log file would log all the information related to all the level starting from emerg, alert, crit, err, warning, notice, info or it is just going the log information pertaining to debug only.

Also which is the highest level and lowest level of logging.

If I use the lowest level logging will it log the information pertaining to highest level and vise versa?

Thanks in Advance

Regards,

man syslog.conf:

[...]
The priority is one of the following keywords, in ascending order: debug, info, notice, warning, warn (same as
warning), err, error (same as err), crit, alert, emerg, panic (same as emerg). The keywords error, warn and
panic are deprecated and should not be used anymore. The priority defines the severity of the message

The behavior of the original BSD syslogd is that all messages of the specified priority and higher are logged
according to the given action. This syslogd(8) behaves the same, but has some extensions.
