Suse Setup Static Ip for Newbie
Hello Forum,
I have a question that has been stumping me, and I know it is probably one of the most simple things to achieve. I am running Suse 9.0 Pro and have purchased static IP's, but have been running DHCP because I can't figure out how to set them. I have them run through a router, and a hub, as I am running 2 different linux boxes, with different linux distro's . When I used Yast on my Suse box yesterday and set the network card to static instead of dhcp my site went offline. Can anyone explain to me (like a 6 year old) how to set up my Suse box on static ip? Any help would be most appreciated. I have been putting this off, because I have not been very comfortable with making the change, and dhcp was an easy out. But now it is time to set it up correctly, but I can not afford to have my site go buggar offline. Thank you all in advance. Cheers, Shnippy |
how is your ISP supplying the IP's to you
I'm no expert but they may be DHCP reservations, if that is the case then setting it a static ip on your end would prolly not work at all (I think) this was how it worked for a friend of mine but that was how his ISP did things perhaps yours is different |
