SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 not recognising network card in IBM Thinkpad T42
I've just finished installing SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 (evaluation copy downloaded from the Novell website) onto a IBM Thinkpad T42. The installation was successful, however, the onboard ethernet interface (network card) is not being recognised.
Using Yast2, I've configured the ethernet network card to eth0. However, when I issue the following command to start up the devise: > ifup eth0 I get the following response: ifup: Could not get a valid interface name: -> skipped [I also get the same text in boot.msg] My Thinkpad T42 has a built in Integrated Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet. Please bear the following in mind: 1. I must use SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, as my application's software stack requires this release of SLES. My initial thought was: - a driver issue - perhaps SLES 8 does not support IBM Thinkpad T42. Please can you confirm/reject my ideas, or suggest alternative solutions. |
