Suse ifdown default route is removed?

I have aliases setup on my Linux server e.g. eth0:1, eth0:2 which are dishing out different IP's to the network for the same server.

When I run a ifdown eth0:1 it removes the alias but also removes the default route? Anyone know why this is or how to turn it off?

If I run ifconig eth0:1 down this works correctly i.e. doesn't blat the default route. Any help greatly appreciated !

Could you post this commands:

1) when is running correctly:

# ipconfig -a

and

# route -n

2) when you turn off the eth0:1 perform the same 2 commands. Im pretty sure that eth0:1 has the address for the gateway :D.
