I read the text in your other thread. (You may wish to transfer it here since the other thread is now closed.) Anyway, I have two suggestions. First, delete the interface and restart the computer. It should detect things correctly this time. (It should "install" new devices using NetworkManager.) Connecting to a regular Ethernet device should be a no-brainer for SUSE 10.0 or 10.2. (10.1 was garbage.)

If that does not help, check out the troubleshooting section on this page. It is mostly oriented toward wireless connections, but 95% of it is valid for wired connections as well. Good luck in any case.
