SuSE 9, Root-Only Dialup?

Greetings! The newbie is back with a really odd problem...

When I attempt to connect to the Internet using QInternet or KInternet, it immediately complains about not being able to use smpppd. This is when I'm logged in as a normal user. It says something to the effect of 'smpppd is not running!' But... it shows up as running...?

When I log in as root, it connects without any issues...

I thought, well, it must be some sort of permission problem, so I changed permission on everything that I could think of as being related to smpppd... but that didn't fix it. Funny thing is, all the users could access it a week ago!

I know being on the 'net in Root mode is probably pretty stupid, so I'm eager to get back to being a regular user to connect.

Thanks for reading! It's probably something very stupid, but I've spent a long time trying to figure it out... I'm too new with this stuff still.
