SuSe 9.0 and multiple network adapters(possible routing issue)
Hey all...
SuSe 9.0 Kernel 2.4.21-199 p4 512ram eth0 = RealTek 8139, 8139too wlan-pcmcia = Toshiba (Agere) Wireless Lan PCI min card), orinico_cs Got a problem with my laptop here... It seems i can only have one network interface active at a time. My computer has built in wireless, plus a ethernet connector. Whenever eth0 is configured, wlan-pcmcia can pull an IP address, but no traffic will flow over the connection. However, if wlan-pcmcia is installed by itself, it works beautifully(i'm sitting in my bed typing this). So this isn't a wireless connetivity issue obviously, i'm able to recieve an IP address with the wireless connected and eth0 disconnected, but not able to pass traffic. What information do you guys need to help me solve this? Also on a side note, sometime my programs will take 3-4 seconds to start up... it's strange because there is not disk activity, no nothing for 3-4 seconds (or longer)... Somewhere i read this is related to a DNS issue. Could this be part of the problem too? |
You don't by chance have the realtech and the Toshiba setup with the same IP do you?
Probably it is a gateway problem. You need to setup a script or some way to switch gateways when you switch from realtech to toshiba. |
Nope, they are automatically assigned an unique address by my school's DHCP system.
So switching gateways... what needs to be in this script? I ran RedHat for awhile, it never had this probably, when one of the interfaces went down, it automatically switched... is there a way to do that in SuSe? |
I would just do this:
ifdown eth0 or ifup eth0 And of course you can turn that into a little button on your desktop. But I don't know if this works on Suse? |
