Suse 9.0 and emails deleted

I use ximian and kmail and sometimes I get the error message along the lines of:

"Make lock failed..." or password fail, when I try to download messages.

It is an automatic password.

Also emails are not getting through or are being deleted, I suspect deleted.
I checked with the ISP,, who checked their end and they say its ok,
Although they do not support Linux only Windows.
the firewall is turned on boot.
Is this to do with autmatic download of messages on connection to the net?
And getting mangled in my system.

I have a dial up with uklinux but acannot find their page to register for their email.

Any suggestions?
