SuSE 8.2 and Netgear MA311

Hello, I have a wireless netgear router and a wireless MA311 PCI card. I tried to get the MA311 (prism2 chip) to work under SuSE 8.2, but the DHCP protocol can't obtain an IP address. I configured the router so that there is no encryption (for now) and no MAC-restrictions. I'm using orinoco_pci drivers. I searched the boards for several hours before posting and tried all what was suggested and it's 3:00 am now and I still can't ping!

$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

00:08.0 Network controller: Harris Semiconductor Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01)

That was the DHCP setup. KDE's KWiFiManager showed a connection and the access point, but there was no IP address.

I tried to set a manual arbitrary IP (192.168.0.5) and then set the default gateway in YaST2 to 192.168.0.1 (which is the default gateway my XP laptop is also using) and I added a couple of name servers to the list, but that didn't help (on ping it says Destination Host Unreachable). I can't even ping the router 192.168.0.1 (which I can do on my XP laptop). I assumed that the mode is 'managed'.

Here is my boot log

Ok

I even tried programming the router to reserve IP address 192.168.0.5 for the specific MAC address for the WAM311. That didn't work either. I try to ping 192.168.0.1 (the router) and it says network in unreachable

Any clues?

Well, I tried the wlan-ng drivers since I'm quite desperate now after a day or so of troubleshooting.

So I installed everything as per instructions. I then

cp rc.wlan /etc/rc.d/boot.d/
cd /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/
ln -s ../boot.d/rc.wlan S09wlan0

I did the above as suggesetd from another posting.

my /etc/wlan/wlan.conf is as following

WLAN_DEVICES="wlan0"
WLAN_SCAN=n
SSID_wlan0="MONTAG"
ENABLE_wlan0=y

then I created /etc/wlan/wlancfg-MONTAG

lnxreq_hostWEPEncrypt=false
lnxreq_hostWEPDncrypt=false
dot11PrivaryInvoked=false
dot11WEPDefaultKey=0
dot11ExcludeUnencrypted=true

IS_ADHOC=n
AuthType="opensystem"

I also added to /etc/modoues.conf

alias wlan0 prism2_pci

and created /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0

DEVICE='wlan0'
ONBOOT='yes'
BOOTPROTO='none'
IPADDR='192.168.0.5'
GATEWAY='192.168.0.1'
NETMASK='255.255.255.0'
NETWORK='192.168.0.0'
BROADCAST='192.168.0.255'
GATEWAYDEV='wlan0'
TYPE='Ethernet'
USERCTL='no'
PEERDNS='no'

when I execute

ifup wlan0, I get the following error

SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
ERROR : Cannot enable interface wlan0
ERROR : Interface wlan0 is not up

when I do lsmod, I get prism2_pci up but not used.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Thank you.
