Unhappy Suse 10 NFS - cannot open/save files

Hello.

I am quite new to Suse and Linux in general... so please be gentle

A little network, consists of 1 server and 5 client machines. All running Suse 10 (same dvd).
Some are P4 64bit some are Celeron 64bit (Don't know if it's important)

Anyway - I've set up NFS, which seemed to be working for a while...

The problem - when I try to open a file on a mounted folder (with rw seen in /proc/mounts) I can't open almost any file.
Only non editable pdf is readable.
I've changed the owner of the files to the user I am logged on - nada.
I've reinstalled sever and client - nothing.
I've set up NIS (thinking of different UIDs might be the problem) to have the same users on client and server and same permissions - nothing.
I can create folders and simple text documents, but when I try to save any OpenOffice document - I get an error (in Polish) like General I/O Error openning (file)...
If I copy document to the desktop - I can do everything.
Then I copy it to NFS share overwriting old file - OK.
I try to open = error.
All permissions are set for rwx for owner/group/others.
Useless...

I don't know where to search for nfs log files...(names of the logs).
I don't know if it's NFS problem

Please HELP!
MopIC
Thanks in advance!

check if you have given rw permissions on your servers' /etc/exports file.
the entry should look something like this. the ip might change on your network.

/<dir-to-export> 172.*(rw, no_root_squash)

Question

Hello,

sorry for late reply... message came in SPAM folder...

Yes, I do have rw optioni exports.
I used YAST and then listed /etc/export file - worked fine.

I checked the same on client machine (listed /proc/mounts) and also have rw.

What is more - I can create new file, I can delete it :-)
What I can't do is open the file in OpenOffice :-(.

I browsed through hundreds of posts on forums I found somewhere that it might be related to options:
rpc_lockd_enable="YES"
rpc_statd_enable="YES"

in file /etc/rc.conf

But I can't find that file in Suse 10... :-(
Maybe You know where to enter this variables?

Regards
MopIC

P.S.
The post I've read (at the bottom of page):

(I cannot enter the full address yet (less than 3 posts)

Another fact...

Hello...

I've checked another thing.
When I'm using Suse 9.2 on the server machine and Suse 10 on clients, everything is ok - opening documents works fine.

When I'm using Suse 10 on both clients and server, I get this error.
Could someone please tell me which configuration files (and where i.e. /etc/whatever) I can compare to find possible differences?

Regards
MopIC
