Suse 10.3, Windows and Samba

Hi everyone.

I am almost at my wits end now trying to setup Samba to allow me to share files with my Windows machines. The problem I am having is that I am being asked to enter a username and password for the shares which come set in the default config file (which I don't want anyway) yet when I attempt to access a share I set up, I get the "is not accessbile" error in Windows.

Here is my configuration file for Samba which I created using the Swat web interface.

Code:
# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1)
# Date: 2008/01/05 11:41:10

[global]
	workgroup = LEYLAND
	map to guest = Bad User
	printcap name = cups
	logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile
	logon drive = P:
	logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile
	os level = 2
	preferred master = No
	local master = No
	domain master = No
	usershare allow guests = Yes
	hosts allow = 192.168.1.69/255.255.255.0
	printing = cups
	cups options = raw
	print command =
	lpq command = %p
	lprm command =
	include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf

[homes]
	comment = Home Directories
	valid users = %S, %D%w%S
	read only = No
	inherit acls = Yes
	browseable = No

[usenet]
	comment = Network Profiles Service
	path = /home/stu/Documents/HellaNZB/usenet/
	read only = No
	create mask = 0600
	directory mask = 0700
	guest only = Yes
	guest ok = Yes
	case sensitive = No
	strict locking = No
	msdfs proxy = no

[users]
	comment = All users
	path = /home
	read only = No
	inherit acls = Yes
	veto files = /aquota.user/groups/shares/

[groups]
	comment = All groups
	path = /home/groups
	read only = No
	inherit acls = Yes

[printers]
	comment = All Printers
	path = /var/tmp
	create mask = 0600
	printable = Yes
	browseable = No

[print$]
	comment = Printer Drivers
	path = /var/lib/samba/drivers
	write list = @ntadmin, root
	force group = ntadmin
	create mask = 0664
	directory mask = 0775
Thank you very much for all your help :-)

Did you run "smbpasswd" to add the windows users and passwords?

No I haven't done that and I'm a bit unsure how to go about using smbpasswd. Both my Linux PC and Windows PC have users with the name "stu" and they are the accounts I am logged in as on both machines. The Linux username has a password but the Windows one does not. Could you help me to configure smbpasswd using these details?

Edit: After some more digging, I discovered how to use smbpasswd and I am now up and running :-) I can now access the "usenet" share but only by going through the "home" share. I assume this is because the folder is in my (stu's) home directory? If that is the case, where would be the best place to put this folder so I can access it as I intended?

I'm not sure if you will run into a problem having one service being a subdirectory of another service and using different credentials.

Anyway, I think that the "Guest Only = Yes" option is what is tripping you up.
Also check if the permissions on the directory allow a guest user access to the share.
Either by having guest being the owner or having rw access for "other". For publicly writable directories you also want to set the sticky bit on the directory.
