suse 10.2 how do i find my ip address


i am new to linux and don't know how to go about getting my ip address?

If you mean for purposes of setting up your internet connection, you probably just need to specify that your computer should ask your internet service provider (isp) for it's dynamic ip address. You do this by setting/enabling dhcp. If you have a static ip address, however, you can get it by contacting your isp.

If you are already connected to the internet, but you just want to know what your ip address is, one way is to use your internet browser and point it to

showmyip.com

I'm trying to find my internal ip address for opening port's on my router, that only shows my external ip. in windows i would go to cmd and type ipconfig in linux what is the equivalent?
