If you mean for purposes of setting up your internet connection, you probably just need to specify that your computer should ask your internet service provider (isp) for it's dynamic ip address. You do this by setting/enabling dhcp. If you have a static ip address, however, you can get it by contacting your isp.

I'm trying to find my internal ip address for opening port's on my router, that only shows my external ip. in windows i would go to cmd and type ipconfig in linux what is the equivalent?
