Suse 10.1 and winxp file transfer Slooooooooow!

Hi there,
new to Linux and I have to say that so far I love it!
I have managed after several attempts (mostly failed ;) to setup a network between my laptops (1 suse and 1 xp) and an xp box (desktop).

Internet speed is fine (as it should be at least), files and printer sharing ok...but the speed between the suse box and either one of the to xp boxes is ridiculous!! (250 Kb/s)

The speed between the two xp boxes is fine.

I am using samba as server. Somebody wrote in another thread that samba is mainly fine for small file size transfer...it is true?

Someone else suggested to setup an FTP file sharing...err..how do I do that?

Has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks

Alex

Install an FTP server. Chances are, SuSE comes with one. try `locate ftpd` and it should give you proftpd or wuftpd or whatever the current equivs are. Once you figure out what ftpd you have installed, man it's config file by `man proftpd.conf` or `man 5 proftpd.conf` and write a config for it.

EDIT: if SuSE doesnt come with one (I doubt it doesnt.) you can obtain ftp server software from www.freshmeat.net.
