Suddenly can't connect to wired network

Hi all,

I'm a bit of a Linux newbie so apologies if anything is unclear.

Our Ubuntu machine suddenly stopped being able to connect to the wired network (no wireless card installed). This is not a router or other issue, I've tested other machines, swapped cables, etc and am sure this is specific to the Linux machine.

I don't even know where to begin troubleshooting this, I'm afraid. Could someone help me out?

well first you need to explain what "connect" means here. What are you seeing to believe there is a problem to resolve?

Do you have an IP address?
can you ping the router address?
