Sudden loss of NIS service

Last week, my workstation (FC4) suddenly hanged. When I rebooted, it is no longer able to access the NIS server. The problem occurs during startup:

...
Binding to the NIS domain [ok]
Listening for an NIS domain server.
YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN Domain not bound
YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN Domain not bound
YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN Domain not bound
YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN Domain not bound
...

(I'm not the LAN admin, just a user. The LAN admin is away overseas on vacation). :-(

This also happened to another workstation a few hours later. This is possibly a server issue?

Thus far, I've disabled ypbind to continue using the workstation.

Any help is appreciated. TIA

can you verify if the NIS master is 'up'. by pinging etc.

are you a slave server or client?

what happens when you type:
domainname
ypwhich

have you used yppoll yet?
