Stupid question - but I'm totally worried

Hi all,

I've got to get some things ordered in my head, I'm totally
confused, an I hope you can help me.

I've got a small network at home, managed by an ipcop-firewall.
Looks like this:

INTERNET ---> IPCOP _____WEB-SERVER / SMB with Winbind
........................| |_____ Client1
........................|______ Client2

The webserver is registered with a dynamic dns like this:
username.homenetwork.net

The IP-COP forwards the request to the Webserver.
And now my questions are the following:

1.) Is it possible to have a domain with my homenetwork
without registering it. (just for the internal network)

2.) When I would have a mailserver (postfix). Do I need a
domain? (an external (like: www.mydomain.com) or an internal?)

3.) Any good howtos for a SIMPLE (please REAL simple) postfix
configuration (FC3), that my php can send mails out on gmx-adresses?

Thanks for help in advance,

coder22

No problem at all.

So as people can send you mail to an address such as foo@bar.net, you need to register bar.net. You can register for free through websites like http://www.dyndns.org/.

Thanks...but?

Hi,

thanks for help but...
I've got already a username lets say:
username.homelinux.net

Will my email be then: admin@username.homelinux.net
or in what way, can I register there a REAL free domain?

Where's that option....? And what is it named?
https://www.dyndns.org/services/

Do I have to register a transfer domain, or a normal one,
I thought, I'll have to pay for a domain - how to get a free one?!

greets,
