strange problem with wireless connection

I lose my wireless connection whenever I switch to a console and have something downloading in X.

this is how I reproduce the problem
1) start long download
2) press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to console

after step 2 the connection is lost. the following shows up in syslog:
Code:
Oct 29 23:15:38 lo kernel: No probe response from AP xx:xx:xx:xx:xx after 500ms, disconnecting.
Oct 29 23:15:39 lo kernel: cfg80211: Calling CRDA to update world regulatory domain
Oct 29 23:15:39 lo dhcpcd[16638]: wlan0: carrier lost
Oct 29 23:15:39 lo dhcpcd: wlan0: MTU restored to 1500
Can this possibly have something to do with radeon modesetting?

Why did you need to switch to console with Ctrl-Alt-F1? Why not just open a terminal in a fresh Desktop? What happens to your download connection if you try that?

Play Bonny!
