Strange Network problems after bootup.
We have a bunch on Redhat AS 3.0 machines.
The first machine out of the lot was installed(OS) the traditional CDROM installation. The rest of the machines we used a combination of dump and cp commands(Change hostname and IP address later) to install the operating system Now these machines which were dump/copied are having a strange network problem, when I reboot these machines the network does not work. If I reboot the same machine once more it starts working. Furthermore , if the network doesn't work I pull the network cable and plug it back the network wakes up. What might be the problem? I have changed the hostname(/etc/sysconfig/network) and the network card parameters (/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0), /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/routes after the cp and dump. Do I need to change anything else? Where does the machine get the proper MAC address for the NIC card ?(/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 or from the NIC itself) Thanx in advance Balaji./ |
You can /sbin/ifconfig to find the mac address. Alternatively, you can simply comment out the HWADDR and MACADDR parameters from the ifcfg-xxx scripts
