Static IP on Mandrake 9.1

Hello,

I am fairly new to Mandrake 9.1 and I was wondering if someone can tell me how to set a static IP rather than using DHCP? I have searched google but havn't been able to find an answer.

if u want to use some tool

try

mandrake control center

else

try editing the file

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

I went to edit that that file and this is what was in front of me:

DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ONBOOT=yes

What am I changing in here to set myself up statically?

BOOTPROTO=STATIC
IPADDR=XXXXXXXXX
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ONBOOT=yes

this wil make it static

u can add the gateway also

GATEWAY=XXXXXXX
