static IP behind router

Hello everyone,

I have a SMC router that has dhcp (ranging from .50 to .100) enabled. I prefer a static IP for my file-server.

IP router:192.168.0.250
Netmask:255.255.255.0
Server IP:192.168.0.1
Default gateway:192.168.0.250

when I ping, I only reach the router, not www.google.com.

any solutions?

PS: this worked in windows...

Can you ping outside addresses using their IPs? Are you sure you have DNSes set correctly (/etc/resolv.conf)?

Uh, yes. I have my resolv.conf set up correctly.

I don't seem to able to ping to outside adresses.

EDIT:
Sorry, I tried my friends IP. I can ping to it.
And, my isp dns server is down, using now an alternative. (dhcp has 3 DNS-servers)
It is solved.

Sorry for your time.

BTW: is there any chance you can set up a DNS server in a local network?
