static ip's with hub?

I have

adsl connection
(ip changes everytime the modem i unpluged)
(i am having trouble web configing modem i can not connect to it)
(said modem has my user name and password stored in it as far as i can tell)

Machine #1 Slackware 10.2
( kt600a.motherboard.org)

Machine #2 Slackware 10
(nforce2.motherboard.org)

Machine #1 & #2 connect to the modem threw a hub

I am using from what i guess DHCP to get my internet connection to the modem
(i can play games and surf web with both machines at same time quite well)

The problem is that i cannot connect to my machines on the local network
(i do not know the ip addresses of machine addresses and cannot connect using the hostnames)

Is there a way to share the adsl connection and fixing the ip addresses of these machines so that i can find them on the local network either with dhcp or soem other configuration?

You can get the IP address of a machine with
Code:
ifconfig
Is this a DSL modem? There might be a web interface for it. Read the manual for it or google for instructions or call the manufacture. It should have a default IP address something like
172.16.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 That is where you can set the DSL modem up. Navigate to that address in a browser and set it up. What kind and model no. is it? Someone may have one.

As far as your machines you will have to have the correct network drivers and configured correctly to work. The hub should work just by plugging into it. Maybe plug one of the machines directly into the modem and get it configured.
