Question Startup error loading iptables (UDP)

Hello all,

Brand newbie to linux here.

I have an RH9 box and recently I used the firewall utility, lokkit, to allow UDP and TCP activity on ports 137-139. This was to allow Windows workstations on my network to see my Samba shares. Everything works fine but upon reboot and during startup I get the following message:

Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore v.12.7a: couldn't load match 'UDP'

Try 'iptables-restore -h' or 'iptables-restore --help' for more information

Couldn't load match 'UDP' :/lib/iptables/libipt_UDP.so

How do I go about resolving this error message? Do I have to write a script for this? Which directory would I place it in?

Thank you in advance! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

looks like a simple syntax problem. Can you print the firewall script for us?

One possibility is that you are specifying a rule for UDP without first using the '--protocol' option?

Thanks for the reply fataldata!

I've figured it out. The problem was that I hadn't saved the current set of iptables rules for the next reboot.

After I entered:

iptables-save > /etc/sysconfig/iptables

everything worked fine.

I got this info from a great sample script at:

http://www.oceanpark.com/notes/firewall_example.html

Thank you anyway for your assistance!
