SSL and Apache

I'm having this slight problem with apache. Before, when I installed Apache 2, everything worked fine, but I wanted to add the mod_ssl, which requires Apache 1, so I installed Apache 1.3.28, with OpenSSL 0.9.7b and mod_ssl 2.8.15-1.3.28, following the directions in mod-ssl INSTALL. I didn't delete the first install of apache 2 (because i don't know how).

When I turn Apache 2 off with apachectl stop, and turn Apache 1 on with apachectl start, Apache 1 says it started

./apachectl start: httpd started

but I see no test page when I direct my browser towards my own IP, and there is no httpd process running when i do ps -aux. If it go back to Apache 2 and start it again, it runs fine. So whats wrong with this Apache 1?

And if anyone knows of a SSL module thing that can work with Apache 2, that would be a great help.

mod_ssl is available as a module for Apache 2:

I recommend getting it to work with your existing 2.0 setup rather than fighting with two instances and versions of Apache.
