ssh terminal pauses every few seconds

My SSH terminal pauses every few seconds.

If I ping it never drops a packet.

But my console is always pausing.

It seems networking related, but it could be the OS or hardware.

What are some ways that I can diagnose this issue ?

is this via a LAN or WWW connection, you have not provided enough info to fully assess the situation.

Packets might not be dropped, but they can be delayed, especially under high network loads. Try increasing the interval of pings (-i flag on Linux's ping) and also look at the round trip times for replies to be received.

ssh terminal pauses

The problem is linux servers at a specific colo.

The pause problem never happens when I connect to Linux AWS servers (or anywhere else)

Other than ping, what other linux tools can i use to diagnose this issue ?
