ssh routing / tunneling question

I want to be able to use my local newsreader pan to access a newserver only accessable by my otther servers network which I have access to via ssh. I looked around a bit, and it seems I might be able to ssh tunnel that nntp traffic through him so I could launch pan local, when it goes out (I think it's port 119) I want it to say, Oh, this is nntp traffic, let me use this route, not my local cable modem's.

Is this in fact possible, and if so, any help is appreciated.

well you don't route with ssh tunnelling as such, it's actually more of a proxy. so you would configure 127.0.0.1:nntp to redirect down an ssh tunnel to whatever is configured as the other end. so no routing decision would be made, just that your news server would now appear to actually be running on your own machine.

ssh -L nntp:mynewsserver.com:nntp user@remotehost.com
